The department of Nephrology was established in this hospital (Pariyaram Medical College) in the year 2002 under the leadership of Dr Sathyanathan VP. Later in 2005 Dr Bijoy Antony joined in the department as Assistant Professor. Dr Bijoy Antony was instrumental in expanding the department and was the head of the department for long term, till he left the institution in 2016. Prof Rajarathnam Krishnan and Dr Rajesh PK also worked in this hospital for short-term. Govt. of Kerala took over the institution in 2019 and the renamed as Govt. Medical College Kannur. Dr Iqbal Ahmad was the lone nephrologist managing the entire department during this time. Dr Dhanin Puthiyottil joined as Assistant Professor Nephrology in November 2021. Dr Anupama KV Assistant Professor Medicine joined in Nephrology department on working arrangement basis from January 2022. Dr Ashish George Assistant Professor Medicine at Govt Medical College Kasargod is also attending the department on working arrangement basis.
