The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Govt. Medical College Kannur was sanctioned and started in the year 2022 with Dr. Sabu C.P. heading the Department. Plastic Surgery caters to a variety of clinical conditions. Trauma reconstruction including soft tissue repair, nerve repair, vascular repair forms the bulk of it. Hand injuries with tendon repair and fracture treatment is done routinely. Burn reconstruction, cancer reconstruction, AV fistula creation for dialysis, skin tumour excision etc. Interdepartmental collaboration with General Surgery, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Nephrology, Dermatology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology and other departments allows complete and comprehensive treatment for patients with complex conditions. Aesthetic/ cosmetic cases are also catered. The department is now headed by Dr. Fobin Varghese since June 2023.
